PLEASE NOTE THAT THIS CAMPAIGN HAS NOW FINISHED AND WE ARE NO LONGER ACCEPTING NAPPIES.

DIGNITY MATTERS and GO REAL would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has contributed to this campaign.

Throughout 2014 Go Real supported 'Dignity Matters’. Unfortunately our part in the campaign has now come to a close, but Dignity Matters tell us that they have been overwhelmed by the response to our campaign- and have received over and above the number of nappy kits they had originally anticipated. On average, a couple of nappy parcels a week have been arriving on their doorstep.

Here, they tell us all about the project and it's purpose:

'Dignity Matters' is a fund and goods raising organisation which has been established to support The Ruby Project- a service delivered by Glasgow Rape Crisis for Black Minority Ethnic women in the Greater Glasgow and Clyde area. Although most Asylum seekers are processed through the Home Office headquarters in Croydon, Glasgow is what is known as a ‘dispersal point’ – so Asylum Seekers are randomly allocated to other areas of the country so needed support is spread out.

Individuals have little to no control as to where they may be ‘dispersed’ to. We work with women, who have faced incredible adversity, and we don’t want them to just survive, we want them to live: with Dignity.

The systems and structures set up, which they must engage with are often highly complex and confusing and leave plenty of room for women to become destitute and further at risk. We are also increasingly coming in to contact with women who are pregnant or new mothers.

One of the biggest expenses our women, with children face are, just like any other parent is the cost of nappies. Many of our women forsake things they need, to provide for their children. We have already managed to provide sets of nappies for five babies in the last six months, through individual donations. They have proven very popular and allowed women to redistribute their minimal financial support (on average £43.94 a week, with an extra £5 per child aged 0-3 or £3 for a pregnant woman or per child over 3) to other much needed things.

So how can you help? We are delighted that Go Real are working with us to promote Dignity Matters, and if you would like to support us and ease the burden on our women, please post your unwanted reuseable nappies to Go Real.
